Parkia biglobosa, also known as the African locust bean is a perennial deciduous tree of the family Fabaceae, in the genus Parkia. It is found in a wide range of environments in Africa and is primarily grown for its pods that contain both a sweet pulp and valuable seeds. The seeds, leaves and bark of the African locust bean tree have been traditionally used in West African communities to treat a variety of medical conditions such as malaria, diabetes mellitus, infections and inflammatory diseases.
