Eco Villages & WildLife ReservesEco villages are getting extinct in Northern Ghana - working profe...ssionals have no where to move to live in harmony with nature as a reaction to the depersonalization of urban life and the industrialization of agriculture. There are few such eco-villages in the region and the project aims to create and support some villages within the region to become eco villages by planting fruit and nut trees on communal and private land.
The objective of the project is to create diverse edible forests with a minimum of 10 different species planted per site. The trees will provide a secure food source to the villagers whilst creating habitats for birds and small mammals thereby effectively restoring lost biodiversity. The tree species will be selected for their historic presence in the area and their suitability to the local environment. The trees planted as part of this project are essential for the eco-villagers to sustainably live off their land, in harmony with the environment and the people around them.Read more
School ProjectsMost schools in Ghana especially are characterized by vast ...lands that are mostly bare. Northern Ghana is said to have some of the poorest communities where children go to school sometimes without food to eat. Though the government has the School Feeding Program ongoing, it can’t be said to be sufficient for this students.
Jowato TalkingTrees is mitigating this situation by forming, training and providing students with three (3) kinds of seedlings.
1. Fruits for Food: These are fruit bearing seedlings that would be planted and assigned to 2 or 3 students to care for. In the next 5years, there would be enough fruits for students even if its seasonal.
2. Trees for Beautification: Students would also have the opportunity to beautify their schools in the process learning a trade of landscaping and growing flowers and beautification seedlings as a means of employment after they have finished school.
3. Trees for Shade and Windbreakers: Most of this community schools have been ripped off a number of times and this has affected learning tremendously. Students would also learn by planting wind breakers some of which would serve as shades for outdoor activities.Read more
